An Update on the Spectrum 10K Consultation
On 31st October, Hopkins Van Mil (HVM), independent facilitators, concluded Phase 2 of the Spectrum 10K consultation. The purpose of Phase 2 was to co-design the Phase 3 consultation with autistic people. Phase 2 involved discussions and activities in workshops, in a dedicated online space, in one-to-one interviews and in meetings.
NHS England new statutory guidance - The value of public partnerships
The NHS recently published its new statutory guidance for integrated care boards, NHS trusts and foundation trusts and policy for NHS England. The guidance puts working with people and communities at the heart NHS England’s work. It particularly focuses on supporting organisations to build collaborative and meaningful partnerships that start with people and focus on what really matters to our communities.
Whole Genome Sequencing for seriously ill children in England - a look back to our 2021 public dialogue
Recently the NHS announced that seriously ill babies in England could be diagnosed and start treatment for rare conditions more quickly thanks to the roll-out of a new genetic testing service. Whilst before it might take weeks for a patient to receive a new diagnosis, the new service uses a technique called whole genome sequencing (WGS) to return results faster, potentially in as little as two days.
This news led us at Hopkins Van Mil to look back on the public dialogue we ran in 2021 to explore the implications of WGS for newborn screening.
Looking ahead to the publication of a new public dialogue report with the UK Pandemic Ethics Accelerator
Following the first hearing of the UK Covid-19 Inquiry, which was held in London last week, we look forward to the publication of a new report on the second public dialogue we ran with the UK Pandemic Ethics Accelerator.
WWF Land of Plenty: The importance of nature restoration
A recent poll carried out by three of the UK's largest environmental NGOs, the National Trust, the RSPB, and the WWF, found that 81% of UK adults believe that nature is under threat and requires urgent action to protect and restore it (WWF, September 2022). This comes at a time when recent government announcements have come under scrutiny for appearing to reverse important environmental commitments. This has led HVM to look back at the public dialogue we ran with Resources for Change in 2021 commissioned by WWF with the purpose of creating a national conversation on land use.
